HARLAND MILLER AT THE DESIGN
MUSEUM
This December, the Design Museum
presents a major free exhibition of
monumental works by internationally
acclaimed artist and writer Harland
Miller, including several new pieces
created specially for the show. Centred
on Miller’s celebrated Letter Painting
series, the exhibition spans two
locations within the museum,
highlighting his distinctive blend of
contemporary art and graphic design.
In the Helene and Johannes Huth
Gallery, visitors will encounter Miller’s
bold, large-scale canvases, defined by
saturated colour palettes and striking
typography – often using typefaces he
designs himself. Key works include Far
Out (2022), the series’ first diptych, and
XXX (2025), which explores the visual
and cultural resonance of repeated
lettering.
The mezzanine displays related works
on paper, offering a closer look at the
structural foundations behind Miller’s
paintings. Co-curated by Miller and
Design Museum Director Tim Marlow,
the exhibition runs from 10 December to
25 January. Entry is free.
