THE YEAR KICKS OFF!
February is traditionally the time when the year kicks off in London, with
Chinese New Year leading the way, accompanied by Valentine’s Day
celebrations across the Capital. Chinese New Year falls on 17 February.
Chinese New Year in London's Gerrard Street, the heart of Chinatown,
features a host of events for the 2026 Year of the Horse, centered around
Sunday, 22 February. Expect vibrant lion dances, traditional decorations,
and festive street food, with the main parade passing through the area.

Watch colourful floats in the annual parade, which welcomes the largest
gathering of Chinese lions and dragons in Europe, usually starting on the
east corner of Trafalgar Square before snaking its way along Charing Cross
Road and around the streets of Chinatown.
Treat the family to the ultimate half-term day out, with exhibitions,
museums and activities across the city. Explore London’s past and present
transport at the London Transport Museum (kids go free!), with
groundbreaking designs including the first red bus and the world’s first
Underground steam train.
On Sunday 1 February, the West End theatre community will come
together for Love Life: West End Unites Against Cancer, a major one-nightonly concert at Theatre Royal Drury Lane in support of One For The Boys,
the men’s health charity working to break the silence around male cancer.
Now in its 30th year, the eagerly anticipated Kew Gardens Orchard
Festival returns to the capital this month (7 February to 8 March), with the
2026 edition highlighting China’s remarkable biodiversity, heritage and
history through its vast array of orchids.
