I’m delighted to welcome you to the 2026 BBC Proms. With over 3,000 artists
and eight weeks of world-class music-making, audiences can look forward to
the very best in classical and orchestral music. The Royal Albert Hall hosts a
total of 72 concerts, while a further 13 take place in venues across the UK, from
Bristol to Gateshead via Mold, Middlesbrough and Sunderland.
The festival is bookended by two of the finest pianists on the planet: Yunchan
Lim on the First Night and Yuja Wang on the Last Night. The Los Angeles
Philharmonic returns to the Proms, conducted by its outgoing Music and
Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel.
Performances from the likes of the Berlin Philharmonic, Spanish National
Orchestra and The Met Orchestra further showcase the finest international
Orchestras. And, with nearly 20 world premieres, the BBC’s support for new
music is clear. British licence-fee payers fund not only the BBC’s TV, radio and
online content but also its five world-class orchestras and the only chamber
choir of its kind in the world, the BBC Singers. I am therefore thrilled that our
BBC ensembles once again provide the backbone to the Proms, performing in
over 30 concerts, with highlights ranging from orchestral favourites by Mahler
and Sibelius with the BBC Symphony Orchestra to Ryan Bancroft’s final Proms
season as Principal Conductor of the BBC National orchestra of Wales.
Our youngest Prommers are in for a treat at the Horrible Science Prom; there’s
opera by Weber and Richard Strauss; and we mark a major centenary in jazz
with a concert dedicated to the music of Miles Davis. Our wide-ranging offering
also includes a concert from the Black Dyke Band, one of the oldest and
best-known brass bands in the world, and an evening of prog rock from Robert
Ames and the BBC Concert Orchestra. Every Prom is broadcast on BBC Radio 3
and available on Sounds, with over 20 televised across BBC TV and iPlayer.
If you’d like to join us in person, standing tickets are just £8 each and seats start
from £12.20 (as well as half-price tickets for under-18s).
I look forward to welcoming you to an extraordinary summer of music-making!
