HISTORIC COASTAL COTTAGES AT
HIGHCLIFF MARRIOTT HOTEL
Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott Hotel
has unveiled the restoration of its muchloved Coastal Cottages, breathing new
life into a collection of 19th-century
former coastguard residences and
offering guests a distinctive seaside
retreat on England’s south coast.
Now open for bookings, the five
renovated cottages comprise nineteen
individually designed guest rooms,
providing a more private and residential
alternative to the traditional hotel
experience. Located just moments from
Bournemouth’s clifftop paths and
overlooking the sea, the cottages
combine period character with
contemporary comforts, while guests
retain access to the hotel’s restaurant,
bar, landscaped gardens and outdoor
pool.
Guests can also dine at Brasserie
Blanc, the hotel’s renowned restaurant,
which serves classic French cuisine with
a contemporary twist. Overlooking the
coast, it offers an elegant setting for
breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Designed by Joanna Knight Interiors,
the refreshed spaces draw inspiration
from the surrounding coastline, featuring
sandy tones, coastguard-red accents and
bespoke artwork curated by Spires Art.
Original architectural elements,
including sloping ceilings and historic
features, have been carefully preserved,
ensuring each room retains its own
unique identity.
The buildings, originally constructed
as coastguard cottages in the 19th
century, later served as private homes
before becoming part of the Highcliff
hotel in 1925. Their rich heritage is
celebrated through artwork and design
details reflecting the area’s maritime
history. ‘The Coastal Cottages are a
special part of the hotel’s story,’ says
General Manager Michael Regenhardt.
‘This renovation has allowed us to
preserve their character while creating
warm, inviting spaces where guests can
experience Bournemouth’s coastline in a
more private way.’
Rooms at the Coastal Cottages start
from £130 per night based on two
people sharing.
