FIRE AND FAITH: MENDELSSOHN’S
ELIJAH AT CADOGAN HALL
Thames Philharmonic Choir are to
present a powerful and compelling
evening at Cadogan Hall on Friday
28 March (19.00), as they perform
Mendelssohn’s best-loved oratorio,
Elijah – a work of extraordinary fire
and faith.
A towering Romantic masterpiece,
Elijah is rich in epic drama, emotional
depth, and unforgettable musical
moments and moves between blazing
confrontation and quiet trust. From the
electrifying Baal scenes to the radiant
triumph of Thanks be to God, and the
tender beauty of He, watching over
Israel, this is music that grips the heart
as much as it dazzles the ear.
The Choir will be joined by an
impressive cast of soloists. Matthew
Sotillo-Cooke, one of the Tenor Scholars
(2022–24), returns to sing, as does
Johannes Moore and Bernadette Johns,
who has sung with them before, and
soprano Sophie Benfield, making her
debut. Current scholars will also be
taking solo roles, adding to what
promises to be a powerful and
memorable performance.
Thames Philharmonic is a vibrant and
musically ambitious amateur choir, led
by prize-winning conductor Harry
Bradford, based in South West London.
With a repertoire spanning over 800
years, the Choir enjoys performing
everything from renaissance polyphony
to contemporary compositions and
everything else in between.
The choir is committed to developing
young singers and musicians and, in
2021, established the inaugural Choral
Scholarship Programme to support
aspiring young singers with their choral
training.
Cadogan Hall is an elegant concert
venue in Chelsea, renowned for its
superb acoustics and intimate
