WICKED AT THE ICC WOMEN’S T20
WORLD CUP
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup
2026 is set to open with an unprecedented
fusion of sport and theatre, as the West
End cast of Wicked takes to the stage at
Edgbaston ahead of England’s opening
fixture against Sri Lanka on 12 June.
In a first for international cricket, stars
Emma Kingston and Zizi Strallen,
leading the production as Elphaba and
Glinda, will perform iconic songs from
the globally celebrated musical before a
packed stadium audience and millions of
viewers worldwide. Broadcast across
Sky Sports, Sky Mix and the Sky Sports
app in the UK, the performance is
expected to transform the opening
ceremony into a major cultural moment
as well as a sporting occasion.
The collaboration forms part of the
ICC’s wider ambition to position the
Women’s T20 World Cup as a global
live-event experience that extends
beyond cricket alone. Marking Wicked’s
20th anniversary in London’s West End,
the one-night-only production at
Edgbaston will bring together the
spectacle of elite sport and live theatre
on one of cricket’s biggest stages.
With more than 150,000 tickets
already sold before the tournament
begins, the 2026 edition is on course to
become the highest-attended Women’s
T20 World Cup in history. ICC Chief
Executive Sanjog Gupta described the
partnership as an effort to blend ‘sport,
music and culture’ in ways that broaden
the appeal of the competition and create
a more immersive experience for
audiences worldwide.
Tournament Director Beth BarrettWild said the collaboration would deliver
‘an epic night of spectacle, emotion and
atmosphere’, setting the tone for 24 days
of elite cricket across England and
Wales. The tournament will feature 33
matches played across seven venues,
while the World Cup trophy will tour
communities and grassroots cricket
clubs nationwide in the lead-up to the
opening match at Edgbaston.
