winner, announced on 3 November, will
receive £15,000, while second and third
place will be awarded £3,000 and £2,000
respectively. One shortlisted photographer
will also receive an £8,000 commission to
create a new work for the National Portrait
Gallery’s collection.
The Winston Taylor Photo Portrait Prize
2026 exhibition will present 56 works by
56 photographers at the National Portrait
Gallery from 5 November to 17 January
next year.

PRIZE 2026
Four photographers are shortlisted for
the Winston Taylor Photo Portrait Prize
2026 at the National Portrait Gallery,
celebrating outstanding contemporary
portrait photography from emerging and
established talent worldwide.
Selected from 3,977 entries submitted
by 1,338 photographers, the shortlist
features James Clifford Kent for Neisser,
Pinar del Río, Cuba, from the series
Yuma; Marcie Docherty for PE, from In
Pursuit of Muscle; Katie Hitchcock-Smith
for Moroccan (Amazigh Cowboys), from
Tajine Westerns; and Max Pattenden for
Havannah, Lee Moor, from Men May
Come and Men May Go, But I Go On
Forever.
The competition invites photographers
aged 18 and over to interpret portraiture
broadly, with a focus on portraying people
and their individual identities. This year’s
judging panel comprised broadcaster and
author Emma Dabiri FRSL, photographer
Nadine Ijewere, photographer and
documentary filmmaker Mary McCartney,
and National Portrait Gallery Senior

ARCADE ARENA OPENS ON THE
SOUTH BANK
London’s entertainment scene is set
for a high-energy new arrival as Arcade
Arena London opens on 5 September on
the South Bank. Bringing three immersive
gaming experiences together under one
roof, the new destination combines
cutting-edge technology, cinematic
environments and live-action gameplay.
Created by the team behind The Crystal
Maze Experience, Arcade Arena is already
a success in Manchester and now arrives
in London as the company’s biggest
venue yet. The PAC-MAN Live Experience
transforms the iconic arcade game into a
giant real-world challenge, with players
navigating an illuminated maze, collecting
power-ups and avoiding ghosts.
Chaos Karts combines real electric
karts with digital projections, taking
drivers through ever-changing virtual
worlds packed with power-ups and
hazards. Completing the line-up is Alien
Invasion, a new immersive adventure in
which guests join the Cosmic Cadets to
battle an extraterrestrial threat.
