I am delighted to welcome you to our great capital, which has an enviable
reputation as a leading global financial centre and a hugely popular visitor
destination, with a vibrant arts and culture scene.
On Saturday 14 November, over 350,000 people are expected to line the
streets of the City of London – the business district around St Paul’s
Cathedral, otherwise known as the ‘Square Mile’ – for The Lord Mayor’s
Show, which starts at 11am from my official residence, The Mansion House.
Over 6,500 people, 250 horses, over 50 decorated floats, and many unusual
vehicles will feature in the three-mile-long parade. Musicians, dancers, young
people from London’s schools and community groups, charities, City livery
companies, and members of the Armed Forces come together in this inclusive
and celebratory event. The Royal Navy will provide the Guard of Honour and
parade the King’s Colour for His Majesty’s 78th birthday.
For the first time in nearly a decade, the Lord Mayor’s Show will begin with
a trip on the River Thames, starting at 8.30am in Westminster. If you would
like to see the flotilla, you will get an impressive view of the ceremonial barge,
‘Jubilant’, and the City livery boats from the bridges.
Once in the City, I will be waving to the crowds from the golden State
Coach, which has been used by the Lord Mayor in almost every Show since
1757. To see so many people join the parade will be an extraordinary
moment: the Show brings centuries of history to life and celebrates the talent,
traditions, and opportunities that connect the City with communities across
London, the UK, and the world.
As the 698th Lord Mayor of the City of London, it will be my privilege to
spend my year in office serving as the global ambassador for UK-based
financial and professional services. Having come to this country from South
Africa and found opportunity here, I want to champion the next generation and
ensure that the City continues to deliver for the whole country.
I wish you an enjoyable holiday in our wonderful capital city.
Alderman Bronek Masojada
Lord Mayor Elect of the City of London
