Welcome to London
As the 697th Lord Mayor of the City of London and the very first to style
herself as Lady Mayor, I am delighted to welcome you to our fantastic
capital, which has an enviable reputation as a leading global financial
centre and a hugely popular visitor destination, with a vibrant arts and
culture scene as well as great cuisine!
On Saturday 8 November, hundreds of thousands of people will line the
streets of the City of London – the district around St Paul’s Cathedral,
otherwise known as the ‘Square Mile’ – for The Lady Mayor’s Show.
Over 7,000 people, 250 horses, over 50 decorated floats, and some really
special vehicles will feature in the three-mile-long parade. Musicians,
dancers, young people from London’s schools and community
groups, charities, City livery companies, and members of the Armed
Forces come together in this inclusive and celebratory family event.

I will be waving to the crowds from the golden State Coach, which has
been used by the Lord Mayor in every Show since 1757. As an East Ender
and someone who has built their career in the City, to see so many people
join the parade will be an extraordinary moment: one that celebrates the
City’s long-standing traditions and puts the spotlight on so many of the
good causes that we support for the benefit of the City and the UK.
It will be my privilege to serve as the global ambassador for UK-based
financial and professional services, and for London as a world-leading
financial centre. During my mayoralty, I will work to strengthen London’s
global leadership and ensure that the City continues to make a positive
social impact, while also demonstrating to the next generation that the
City really is a great place to live and work in.
