NEW BALANCE WINTER RUNNING
KIT: GEAR UP FOR THE COLD
As winter tightens its grip, staying
committed to your running routine
demands more than sheer determination
– it requires smart gear. New Balance’s
winter running kit is engineered to tackle
cold, rain, and darkness while keeping
you warm, dry, and visible.
At the foundation of any cold-weather
run is layering. New Balance
recommends starting with a lightweight,
moisture-wicking base layer like their
NB HEAT garments. These tops, such as
the London Acceptance Q Speed 1NTRO,
trap warmth while pulling sweat away
from the body.
On top of that, you’ll want a mid-layer
that insulates without weighing you
down. The NB Heat Grid line, including
the 1/2 zip pullover or a cosy vest, offers
breathable warmth and a comfortable fit.
When it’s raining or windy, a quality
outer shell is essential. New Balance’s
winter jackets combine weatherproof
fabrics with reflective detailing to help
with visibility on dark winter roads.
On your legs, thermal tights like the
Reflective Impact Run Heat Tight (for
women) or insulated joggers (for men)
do the trick. These pieces use NB HEAT
technology plus stretchy, sweat-wicking
material to keep your muscles warm
without compromising mobility.
Don’t forget accessories. Lightweight
gloves, a hat or headband, and a snood
for the neck help seal in warmth and
protect your extremities.
Footwear is a key piece, too. While not
every run demands specialised shoes,
New Balance recommends their Fresh
Foam X Hierro v9 GTX trail runners for
cold-weather use. These have a Gore Tex
waterproof membrane and Vibram®
Megagrip outsoles, giving you grip and
protection in slush or snow.
With the right kit, winter runs become
less of a battle and more of a challenge
worth conquering. Layer wisely, stay
visible, and trust in gear that’s built to
perform when the weather doesn’t.
2025 TCS LONDON MARATHON
SETS NEW FUNDRAISING RECORD
The 2025 TCS London Marathon set
a new world record for the largest oneday fundraising event, raising an
incredible £87.3 million for charity. This
surpasses the previous record of £73.5
million from 2024 by £13.8 million,
bringing the total raised since the first
marathon in 1981 to £1.4 billion.
Hugh Brasher, CEO of London
Marathon Events, praised the
achievement, noting that while the
marathon lasts one day, its impact
continues year-round as thousands of
charities benefit from participants’
fundraising efforts across the 26.2-mile
route.
The event’s official fundraising
partner, Enthuse, reported another
record-breaking year, with more than
£35.77 million raised through its
platform. The average donation was
£46.75, and the average fundraising
page totalled £2,809. The 2025
marathon also set additional world
records, becoming the largest marathon
in history with 56,640 finishers.
