GOOD NIGHT, OSCAR, AT THE
BARBICAN FOR SUMMER
Emmy and Tony Award-winner Sean
Hayes will reprise his much-lauded Tony
Award-winning performance in Good
Night, Oscar at the Barbican Theatre this
summer. Direct from a critically
acclaimed Broadway run, this sevenweek season runs from 31 July until
21 September.
Sean Hayes will make his West End
debut in this new play by Pulitzer Prizewinning playwright Doug Wright,
playing Oscar Levant: Hollywood actor,
concert pianist, and the most subversive
wit ever to appear on television during
its Golden Age.
It’s 1958, and Jack Paar hosts the
hottest late-night talk-show on
television. His favourite guest? Wild card
Oscar Levant. Famous for his witty oneliners, Oscar has a favourite: ‘There’s a
fine line between genius and insanity; I
have erased this line.’ Tonight, Oscar will
prove just that, when he appears live on
national TV in an episode that Paar’s
audience – and the rest of America –
won’t soon forget.
Producer Howard Panter said: ‘We
are delighted to be bringing Good Night,
Oscar to the Barbican this summer.
Following the huge success of our
previous summer productions, including
Anything Goes, A Strange Loop and Kiss
Me, Kate, the Barbican summer has
become a highly anticipated fixture in
London’s theatrical calendar. With the
addition of Good Night, Oscar alongside
Fiddler on the Roof, this season once
again delivers world-class storytelling
and unforgettable performances.’
Full of humour, with an unmissable,
virtuosic performance from Sean Hayes,
Good Night, Oscar is directed by Lisa
Peterson and masterfully explores fame,
artistry, and the fragility of genius.

A ROLE TO DIE FOR
A Role To Die For, the critically
acclaimed new comedy written by
Jordan Waller and directed by Olivier
Award winner Derek Bond will play at
Marylebone Theatre from 26 July until
30 August. Tanya Franks will star as
‘Deborah’ in the London transfer of Barn
Theatre’s hit comedy.
She’s not just casting a role. She’s
gambling with a legacy. It’s the eve of the
biggest casting reveal in Hollywood:
Deborah is about to announce the next
face of the world’s most legendary spy
franchise. The tux is pressed, the
martinis are chilled... until the rumours
start flying. Her perfect pick? Caught in a
scandal that would make even their onscreen alter ego look tame. With a
ticking clock and a legacy on the line,
Deborah must make an impossible
choice: stick to the sleek, suited formula
the world knows, or dare to let the next
generation redefine a global icon.
A sharp-witted, laugh-out-loud comedy
about identity, legacy, and the explosive
battle between tradition and progress,
A Role to Die For will leave you shaken,
stirred, and seriously entertained.
Writer Jordan Waller says, ‘after a
brilliant run at the Barn Theatre this year,
I am thrilled that we’re bringing the show
to London – and even more excited that
Tanya Franks is stepping into Deborah’s
shoes. It’s going to be a blast!’
