SUMMER AT THE TRANSPORT
MUSEUM
As part of her new vision for London
Transport Museum, Director and CEO
Elizabeth McKay and the team are to
present the latest in the Transported by
Culture initiative: the return of Transport
Explorers: A Live Show in the Cubic
Theatre after its successful run during half
term, alongside Rail Adventures in the
main museum to celebrate 200 years of
the British Railway.
The Transport Explorers: A Live Show
is created in partnership between Dan
Colman Creative and London Transport
Museum to bring the rich history of the
capital’s transport system to life in a fun
interactive show aimed at ages 7 plus (but
all are welcome!).
Packed with live experiments, comedy,
and plenty of audience interaction, this
60-minute show puts kids (and their
grown-ups) right in the middle of the
action as they journey through amazing
moments in London’s transport history.
Discover world-changing innovation in
the 1800s to smart solutions for modernday transport problems – plus groundbreaking ideas that could shape our
future.
In the museum galleries, the family fun
continues through the summer holidays
with RAIL ADVENTURES, a collection of
activities to celebrate the 200th
anniversary of the modern railway.
Families can discover amazing
moments in London’s railway history –
from the construction of the world’s first
underground railway, to the opening of the
Elizabeth line – through themed activities
including coding toy trains, meeting
costumed characters from London’s past,
designing a pop-up railway, and even
joining a train birthday party.
For all ages activities include: The Best
Underground Line – imagine what it
would have been like a hundred years ago
when different lines had to compete for
customers in this fun poster-making
activity; Make a Pop-up Railway –
inspired by the first railway in London,
join in a pop-up model-making activity;
Design a Train Carriage – discover how
train carriages have changed over the last
200 years and have a go at designing a
future train carriage; Arts and Crafts – a
range of museums and heritage
organisations will run arts and crafts
sessions over the holidays.
London Transport Museum’s
Transported by Culture initiative continues
to grow, bringing a bold new strand of
cultural programming to the museum. It
launched in October 2024 with The Truth
About Harry Beck, a critically acclaimed
debut theatre production that celebrated
the man behind the world-famous Tube
map, with sold-out performances in the
Cubic Theatre.
