SING STREET AT LYRIC
HAMMERSMITH
Sing Street, a new musical based on
John Carney’s acclaimed 2016 film, has
made its UK premiere at the Lyric
Hammersmith Theatre, where it will run
until 23 August. The production brings
together a distinguished creative team
including Tony Award winners Enda
Walsh, Rebecca Taichman, and Sonya
Tayeh, with music by Gary Clark of Danny
Wilson. Following successful runs in
Boston and New York, the show now
arrives in London with a fresh UK cast.
Set in Dublin in 1982, the story
follows 16-year-old Conor, who’s
struggling at his new Catholic school
while his family life crumbles. His world
changes when he meets Raphina, a
mysterious and ambitious girl who
dreams of being a model. Hoping to
impress her, Conor invites her to star in
a music video for his band – only to
realise he doesn’t have a band yet. This
sparks a journey of self-discovery,
music-making, and young love, all set to
an uplifting 1980s new wave soundtrack.
The musical explores themes of
resilience, creativity, and the power of
music to overcome adversity. With highenergy performances, heartfelt
storytelling, and an infectious score,
Sing Street captures the spirit of youth
and the longing for something more.
Tickets are now available through the
Lyric Hammersmith Theatre website at
