SUMMER AT THE SCIENCE
MUSEUM
Whether it is exploring the future of
food, embarking on a space adventure or
getting to grips with award-winning
games: there’s something for everyone
this summer at the Science Museum.
Adults and families can enjoy free
space activities, including live
experiments and interactive
demonstrations in a new show, and a
space trail in partnership with Disney
and Pixar’s Elio. This summer of space
will culminate in the launch of the new
Space gallery on 20 September.
Future of Food is a major new
exhibition, examining how science can
help us find more sustainable ways to
grow, produce and eat food. Delving into
everything from food production in
ancient times to the first Quorn burger
features more than 100 thoughtprovoking objects and hands-on
interactive exhibits that illustrate the
fascinating stories behind what ends up
on our plate.
The Summer Space Trail, inspired by
Disney and Pixar’s film Elio, will run
until 31 August, taking visitors on a
journey to find game-changing space
objects as they channel their inner space
explorer.
Guests will have the opportunity to
meet environmental experts from the
Environment Agency and to explore the
vital connection between food and the
environment. Visitors can follow a stamp
trail and discover how we can protect
natural resources – like soil, water, air,
and wildlife – to support a healthy planet
and sustainable food for the future.
Technicians: The David Sainsbury
Gallery is a unique interactive gallery for
11–16 year olds which brings the
overlooked but crucial world of
technicians to life. Step into a film set
recreated from Marvel Studios’ Black
Panther to learn how technicians create
blockbuster movies; try your hand at
creating lifesaving drugs as a pharmacy
technician; or even control a robotic arm
to discover the role of advanced
manufacturing technicians. Visitors can
explore a variety of technical roles and
try one-of-a-kind interactive exhibits
which mimic the tasks technicians
perform every day.
The Science Museum is open 10:00
– 18:00 seven days a week.
BLOOMSBURY FESTIVAL
The Bloomsbury Festival returns in
October with the theme ‘The Paths We
Tread’, offering a weekend of cultural
celebration across Bloomsbury and
Camden. The annual event brings
together theatre, music, art, literature,
science, and family activities in local
streets, parks, museums, and galleries.
This years edition also builds
momentum for the festival’s 20th
anniversary in 2026, which will feature a
month-long celebration and the largest
programme in its history.
The theme is inspired by heritage
research uncovering stories from the
historic streets of St Giles, Seven Dials,
and Bloomsbury. It aims to connect the
area’s rich past with its vibrant present
through performances and creative
storytelling.
A highlight of the festival is
Bloomsbury’s New Wave, an initiative
that showcases emerging talent across
the arts, offering a platform for earlycareer artists, musicians, and theatremakers to present new work.
The festival will open on 16 October
with Songs And Ballads Singing
Showcase, a free launch event. Singers
from Bloomsbury and beyond will come
together in a joyful sharing of songs that
reflect the history of the area and the
diverse global communities that live
there today.
